RADS 5 Client Corruption: Symptoms, Resolution
An update was recently pushed out to some RADS 5 clients that
damages the software installation. If you notice that the
OfficeScan icon has turned red or you receive a notification
that your pattern files are out of date (from OfficeScan itself
or the Windows Security Center), your client was most likely
affected by the update. The image below shows some of the
visual indicators that your installation was corrupted by the
update.

If your client is functioning properly, you should see
a blue icon with the wavy yellow line in your taskbar. When
you hover over the icon, make sure the version numbers
are no less than what is listed below:
OfficeScan (Online)
Antivirus Eng/Ptn: 8.910.1002/5.645.00
DCS Eng/Ptn: 5.32.1011/976
If any of the version or pattern file numbers are less than what
appears above, try to right click on the OfficeScan icon and run
'Update Now'. If that process fails, your client is likely affected.
If you believe that your computer was affected by the update,
please uninstall and re-install a new copy of RADS 5.
-
Uninstall RADS 5.
RADS 5 appears in the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs as "Trend
Micro OfficeScan Client". If you have any trouble removing
the client, please try running Trend Micro's Common Uninstall Tool. If you are still
unable to remove the RADS 5/OfficeScan client software, please
contact antivirus_support@rutgers.edu.
Please note that the Common Uninstall Tool does not provide
the user with generous feedback. You will only receieve a command prompt, but you can tell that the uninstall has succeeded when the client disappears
from the system tray and the command window closes. Vista users should run this as administrator.
-
Reboot your computer. This is very important.
-
Re-install RADS 5 using the latest install package. The latest RADS 5 installer is
available from the download page here (authorization
required).
Please note that after installation you may have to perform an Update Now in order to quiet the Windows Defender
message that your client is out of date. To perform an Update Now, right click on your OfficeScan icon in the system
tray and select "Update Now".
If you have not already done so, you are encouraged to sign up for the
RADS_ANNOUNCE mailing list. This is a low volume mailing list to notify
users of service outages and scheduled maintenance.
